Holiday Lights

After the museum we drove through the Holiday of Lights tour before heading back to Grandma's to celebrate New Year's Eve. They had a cool ice tree with lights.

Time to bring in the New Year and officially end the holiday season.

Dino-mite

While in Utah we went to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point. This is one of the best interactive dinosaur museums, I think. We took the kids four years ago and Blake remembered it so he was very excited to go again. He is so into dinosaurs again. He loves to draw them and study dinosaur facts. I had to take his picture by every dinosaur for him. We took Jazmine along with us. The girls loved the night tunnel the most with all the stars.
They have this giant stuffed dinosaur you can build. The spent a lot of time doing that.

I'm not sure the sign said you can hang your child from the tallest dinosaur.

Hailey was very excited to find the hidden egg.

Digging for dinosaurs fossils. Blake was telling everyone about the type that they had found in the sand. Some little boy keep digging for more and asking Blake what it was.

Stranded

By the time we got ready to leave the ski resort we noticed that some of the owners of the cars we passed in the park lot had a lot of digging out to do. We were shocked to find out that people do not know how to drive in a snow storm. It took us three hours to get to my Mom's house. It is usually about thirty minutes door to door. We were really wishing we had stayed at the lodge for dinner. There were at least a half dozen of these signs on the side of the road. It seems like we were stopped in front of each of them for ten minutes at a time.
We played every car game possible. The kids eventually all fell asleep. I looked back and Blake was without a shirt curled up in the very back seat. Hailey was asleep next to him and Madison was hugging her skis and sleeping.

We also hit a snowstorm on our way home from Utah on the El Cajon pass. They had closed the road and we took a side road to get home. I couldn't believe how many people were pulled over there. The kids said they love playing in the snow not driving in it.

Hitting the Slopes at Alta

We decided to take Madison skiing for the first time this year. Paul and Robin were going to Alta with Jazmine so we decided to tag along with them. The last hour of the day you can ski for free so we took Madison, Blake and Hailey up with us. It just happened to be that a storm came rolling in so it was cold and snowing. Madison was very excited to give it a try though.
Paul and Jazmine took the lead with Madison and Robin behind them.

Off they go
This is Hailey second year and she was the best sport and lasted the longest. She skied with Uncle Paul and Daddy when everyone else went in to get warm.
Blake thought he was such and old pro and got sick of waiting around for everyone. He kept trying to ski up the small slope to get us to hurry, which eventully wore him out.
Alta doesn't allow snowboarders so it was Todd's first time skiing also.
Blake wanted to show him how. Todd did good of course but is going to stick with snowboarding.
The little girls didn't last very long. It was way too cold and windy. Blake wimped out too so we hung out at the lodge more than we skied. Good thing it was free.
Warming up with hot chocolate in the lodge.
Maybe next day we can ski when it is sunny out.

Temple Square at night

One afternoon we went to see Yogi Bear the movie and than for dinner at our favorite Utah burger place, Crown Burger. After dark we went to see the temple lights downtown. It was cold but beautiful to walk around.
We walked around for a while and we checked out all of the Nativities that they had. Then we went in to one of the visitor centers that had a large model of the temple where you could see inside. The kids thought that was pretty cool. The girls liked being able to see where Todd and I got married.

Before we left we went to the visitor center on the other side to see the statue of Christ. It was so sweet when we got to the top of the ramp. The kids all sat in front of the statue and held hands. They just sat there quietly for a while. My Dad said that is the most priceless picture. I agree. No whining or fighting, just taking it all in.

It is so sweet to see their little testimonies grow. Even little Abby is so cute. One day we asked her what she learned about in Nursery and she said, "Jesus. I follow him." A few weeks later she said she follows Jesus and Santa. I love to watch Blake feel the spirit and get excited about things he is learning. He doesn't like to share too much excitement when people talk to him, but sometimes he really surprises me when we are talking. I can see his reverence for the Savior in his is eyes even at a young age. He is such a great kid.

I am very thankful to have an eternal family.

Sleepovers

One of the kids favorite thing about our trips to Utah are the weeklong sleepovers! They love it! Grandpa is usually the first one out.

Sledding

It was a perfect sunny day to get out and go sledding so we went to the park with Grandpa, Uncle Paul, Aunt Robin, Jazmine, Lance, and Sara. Abby and Madison were so excited to go by themselves. Luckily there was hardly anyone at this particular park.
Madison and Jazmine held hands almost the whole trip.

Blake, Hailey, Lance and Sara were old pros by now and headed over to explore more hills.

They discovered a big bump. When I say it I told Todd to let them know to watch out for it. He just laughed at me and said too late they have been going off it for sometime time now and where trying to make it bigger. I guess they aren't babies anymore.
I did get a great shot of Hailey in the air. I could only get a before and after shot of Blake. He was too fast up and down the hill.
Abby and Daddy so happy to be out and playing.
Madison, Jazmine and Robin gearing up to go.
All bundled up.
Grandpa loves to go and watch them go sledding. He goes every time and watches from the top of the hill. This is the first time I have actually ever seen him wear a hat. Paul was so impressed he asked to have is picture taken with him.

Grandpa's Little Snow Angels

Grandpa's freshly fallen snow on the front lawn wasn't very smooth for very long.
The kids couldn't wait to get outside and play. Madison, Sara and Jazmine making snow angels.

Christmas in Utah

The next morning after Christmas we drove up to Utah for a week. Monday night we had a family party at Grandma and Grandpa Newbold's. Everyone was there. We exchange cousin gifts that night. Madison and Jazmine couldn't wait to get ready and play with the Hello Kitty craft stuff Madison picked out for her.
Bryce is into Thomas the Train just like Blake was at his age so we brought him a box of Blake's old train stuff. He was very excited and played with them all night. Bryce is getting a new baby sister soon.

Blake kept helping him set the track up when it would break and with a couple of two year olds in the room it broke a lot.

Grandpa looked so proud to have everyone around. I don't think it realized yet it would be a week of grand kids in and out all day. Thank goodness he is feeling much better he had Pneumonia the week before.
