58 Degrees of Fun

It wasn't the warmest week at the beach but we still had a great time.  I am always amazed how the kids play all day on the beach  and then late in the afternoon they decided to get in the water and stay in it into the evening.   It was freezing!!!  I do love watching them at that time of day as the sun is about to set seeing them laughing and having a good time.  I like Abby's idea the best wrapping up.  I am all for staying on the beach in my sweatshirt while chatting with friends while the water is sooo cold.
At least Todd is smart enough to be wearing a wetsuit.  A whole week of being able to walk down to the beach and surf whenever makes him very happy.

Treasure Hunters

Madison and her buddy Temet had a great time hunting for treasures.  Earlier in the day we had a treasure hunt for the kids to go on.  It must have inspired these two cuties.  They were determined to find the best "treasures" from the sea that afternoon.
They were so cute and proud of everything they found on the shoreline.

Madison found herself a "necklace" and Abby got a fan.
They even made themselves a jump rope to play with.

Camp at Night

The kids love camping because they get their favorite bedtime snack.
 Smores!!!
They don't even mind if it is a burnt marshmallow.  As long as it is a marshmallow.
They can't wait to get their nightly fire going as soon as the sun goes down.

One night we showed the Muppets Movie on the back of the motorhome.  Somehow Hailey ended up with the giant bowl of white chocolate popcorn Sister Munoa made for all the kids.  She looked so tiny compared to the big bowl.  It was delicious:)
Every night all of us from five sites got together and had a potluck type dinner together.
My kids love smores but the Izatt's tarts on fire are becoming a very  close second.
They love to roast their tart and then fill them with strawberries and cream.
We also made orange cakes in the fire this time around.  I remember making them at girls camp so I thought we would give them a try.

We love being around the campfire!!!

Spring Is Here!

The weather is warming up and the kids are loving the longer hours of daylight to play outside.  We decided to make our zipline more permanent in the backyard.  Saturday's project was to dig a four foot hole to cement posts in.  I was inside doing some things and Todd had me come out and see the cute little gophers he found in the hole.
They are pretty darn cute little creatures!
The kids are loving swinging across the backyard all afternoon!

Riley's Farm Field Trip

Blake went to Riley's Farm on a field trip this week to see how Colonial life really was.  It was super cool.  When you got their everyone was in full character the entire time.  The kids went around to 7 different workshops to learn about colonial life.
The first area they went to was a court room to show them what it was like under the British rule.
They also learned how to weave, melt metal for bullets, bake bread, churn butter, play some games and pack and prepare for war.

At the end they all reenacted the Revolutionary War Battles.

It was a very fun day.  These kids really know their history now!!

A Walk Through the Revolution

Today the parents of the 5th Graders were invited to the Walk Through the Revolution Assembly at school.  This is the third and final time the kids wore their costumes to school.  During the assembly they were divided up into three teams that competed against each other and played trivia games about the Revolution.  The kids also reenacted different events that happened during that important time in our history.
Blake was asked ahead of time to explain the Stamp Act to the audience.
He did a great job and had it all memorized!

The whole program lasted three hours!!!  Luckly it the guy was very entertaining and the kids loved it.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Feeling pretty lucky to have such sweet adorable little kids!

These two cute little leprechauns both had parties at school!
At home the kids made a leprechaun trap with Kelsie who was babysitting while Todd and I got a night out.  They each decorated a different side of the box.
The next morning they found a treasure hunt in the box and saw that the leprechaun had used our toilet!!!
The loved the treasure hunt and the rainbow of candies at the end as a treasure!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hollywood TV Tapings Trip

The weekend of Abby's birthday we had Uncle Paul, Aunt Robin and Jazmin come and stay with us.  The girls loved have an endless party with Jazmin.  They left Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon Grandma and Grandpa Newbold and Aunt Holly came to stay with us.  My Mom had gotten VIP tickets to see Dr.Phil on Monday morning so we I took them to Hollywood for a couple of days for some TV  tapings.  The first day we went to Dr. Phil and the second day we went to The Price is Right and were also on Extra.  We stayed down in Hollywood near the Grove so we weren't driving back and forth.  It was a nice little break from the daily carpooling and homework routine.

The producers gave us the mics and let us take some pics.  My Dad really hammed it up with all the ladies!

We got to chat with Maria Menounos who is a host and also on Dancing with the Stars.  She was really nice.
We also taped with Mario Lopez.  You was pretty dang cute!
As we were getting ready to leave for The Price is Right, Renee Bargh came out.
We sat for a very long time to see the Price is Right.  It was way more upbeat then Dr. Phil and Drew Carey was really fun with the audience.  I think the behind the scene stuff is the most fascinating.

Before heading back home I took them over to Hollywood Boulevard to see the stars on the street and the Kodak and Chinese Theatre.  When we drove past they had the stars walking the red carpet for the premiere of Jump Street.  By the time we parked they had it almost all cleaned up.  Those crews have it down to a science.
My Dad get the award for being the most patient man to sit through a taping a Dr.Phil.  He had watched on TV episode of a 23 year old man who acts like a baby and wears diapers.  He kept saying it better not be the show he has to watched be taped.  The first show was of 9/11 survivors who were lied too and the the Zanny Nannny from the Casey Anthony case.  The second show has the 700+ lb boy on who had to be wheeled onto the start on a flat bed wagon with four EMTs.  The second part was a follow up on the 23 year old man who wears diapers and pretends to be a baby.  We couldn't believe what are chances were.  We were trying very hard not to laugh because we knew my Dad had to have been dying.  Dr. Phil warned everyone not to react too.  It was pretty funny and disturbing!
